Buying at Auction

What happens if I win an auction?

If you are the winning bid, you'll be charged a buyer's premium of 5% + GST, with a minimum of $500 AUD. The remaining sell price is to be paid to the seller.

How do I pay the seller?

After the buyer's premium has been paid, you will be introduced to the seller. Electronic funds transfer is the preferred method of payment for the seller.

How do I know if the listing has a reserve?

The listing will indicate whether it has a reserve price and whether that reserve has been met or not.

How do I contact Plater during an auction?

You can contact us during an auction via emailing support@plater.com.au or by direct messaging through our social channels.

How do I bid?

Begin by registering an account. Once your account is registered, verify it. After completing these steps, you'll be able to place bids. For more information go to our “How Auctions Work” page.

Can I withdraw a bid?

Once a bid has been placed, it cannot be withdrawn.

Is there an extension of time for last-minute bids?

Currently, there is no additional time added for last-minute bids.

Selling at Auction

How much does it cost to list?

There is no listing fee.

How do I list my number plate?

You can list your number plate by filling out our auction enquiry form located on the bottom of the first page. You will be contacted by one of our team members within 12-48 hours.

Do I need to fill out an authority form to auction off my number plate?

Yes, once an auction inquiry has been accepted and a reserve price is set, you, as the seller, are required to sign an authority form.

What style of number plates do you accept for auction?

We accept desired number plates with realistic reserve prices.

Can I cancel my auction once it goes live?

Yes, you can cancel the auction after it has gone live, but there is a cancellation fee. The fee is 2% of the agreed reserve price plus GST, with a minimum of $400 AUD Plus GST. This information is outlined in our terms and conditions.

Once an auction is complete, what happens?

After the auction concludes and the final price exceeds the set reserve price, the buyer will pay the buyer's premium. Following this, the seller and buyer will be digitally introduced.

Can I lower my reserve during the auction?

Yes, you can lower the reserve price at any time during the auction.

What happens if my auction does not meet the reserve price?

We will negotiate with the highest bidder on your behalf. Additionally, you have the option to relist the plate at any time.
